A Mural of Fairtrade: Ibu Rahmah’s Story in Buffalo, New York

In Buffalo, New York, a mural of Ibu Rahmah at Lexington Co-op celebrates the journey of Ketiara coffee from the Gayo Highlands to American consumers. The mural portrays her not only as a farmer, but as a leader representing thousands of cooperative members.

This mural was facilitated by Fairtrade America, part of Fairtrade International, highlighting the importance of fair trade principles — transparency, sustainability, and better livelihoods for farmers. It reflects how ethical partnerships connect producers and consumers across continents.

Coffee grown by Ketiara farmers is available in the U.S. market and enjoyed by communities that care about responsible sourcing. Through Fairtrade partnerships, buyers and consumers can directly support farming communities in Indonesia.

The mural stands as a symbol of appreciation and shared responsibility. It reminds us that behind every cup of coffee, there are real farmers, real families, and real stories. From Gayo to Buffalo, the journey of Ketiara coffee proves that fairness, quality, and strong partnerships can create lasting global impact.
